I'm the swing / standby / understudy. I jump in when a regular host can't. When there are staff vacations, family emergencies, holidays, foul weather days or marathon Senate hearings in the gloom of night mdash; I'm at the mic.
My grandfather was an engineer for Powell Crosley at the dawn of broadcasting mdash; even did a little announcing on-air. Though he died before I was born, he'd be delighted to know I'm working here, particularly as the studios are in the Crosley Telecommunications Center.
